Executive Director: Organizational leader for the local partnership of Oconee County First Steps
STATUS: Full-time
RATE: Base Salary 50k
HOURS: 40 hrs.
LOCATION: Oconee County First Steps Office – 135 E Main Street, Westminster, SC 29693
Oconee County First Steps is seeking an Executive Director to be responsible for the successful leadership, overall management, and operations of the agency according to the strategic direction, and policies set by South Carolina First Steps and Oconee County First Steps Board of Directors. The Executive Director will ensure all programs and initiatives are aligned with the agency’s mission and vision to successfully achieve strategic objectives. The Executive Director will represent the organization to the greater community to further partnerships, advocacy objectives, programing initiatives, and community partnership goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership
• Assure organization has a long-range plan involving board and staff and mission is successful through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.
• Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with Board of Directors and staff to carry out plans and policies authorized by the local First Steps Board and the South Carolina First Steps Board of Directors.
• Coordinate work with the Executive Committee: Board Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary of the board of directors, to conduct
• Communicate effectively with the assigned Program Officer.
• Function as the official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.
• Ensure all policies and procedures are reviewed by the Executive Director annually and continue to meet the needs of the agency.
Financial Reporting
• Develop and maintain sound financial practices.
• Possess budget management skills, including preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting.
• Work with the Executive Board and South Carolina First Steps Finance officers in preparing the budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
• Ensure adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
External Relations and Program Compliance
• Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Execute all grants according to the official grant agreements, including budgets and required reports, including the Annual Report, the Formula Grant, and the Comprehensive Plan.
• Serve as First Steps’ primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the public. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
• Represent the programs and point of view of the organization
• Approve and review all social media content, blogs, and newsletters representing the agency.
Talent and Team Development
• Responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
• Ensure job descriptions are developed, regular performance evaluations are held, and sound human resource practices are in place.
• Encourage staff professional development, supporting the mission and vision of the agency.
• Ensure an appropriate provision for succession is in place.
Board Relations
• Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions and strive to increase the overall visibility of the agency throughout the State.
• Ensure Board is kept fully informed on the state of the agency, and communicates effectively with the Board providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Social Science, Leadership, or related field. ) required, master’s degree preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication including social media skills.
• Knowledge in nonprofit management, team leadership, fundraising and program governance.
• Strong experience in budget management, fiscal management and financial reporting.
• Passion for Oconee County First Steps Mission and Values.
• Knowledge of fundraising strategies, donor relations, and utilizing internships.
• Strong experience in DATA collection, entry, and reporting.
• Experience in building and maintaining effective community partnerships
• Knowledge in preparing Audit documents, Annual reports, and other organizational agency requests.
